Why Nontoxic Candles Matter: The Truth About What's in Your Candle

At Good Intentions, we believe a candle should be more than just a pretty flame. It should be clean, safe, and made with love — not chemicals.

But did you know that most candles on the market can actually harm your health?

This is the story of how our founder discovered that — and how it sparked a movement for clean candle awareness.

✨ The Origin of Good Intentions: From Candle Lover to Clean Candle Creator

Before Good Intentions was born, our founder was just like many of you: obsessed with candles.
Every year, she looked forward to the big candle sales, stocking up with 40–50 candles at once, filling her home with scents that brought comfort and nostalgia.

Then came 2020.
When quarantine hit, the world slowed down, and she, like many others, found herself craving peace and creative release. That’s when she decided to make her very first candle and named it “An Escape from Quarantine.”

But what started as a fun DIY hobby quickly turned into a deep dive down the candle industry rabbit hole…

🔎 The Candle Industry Is Shockingly Unregulated

Through research, our founder learned a disturbing truth: the candle industry isn’t regulated by the FDA. That means:

  • There’s no legal requirement to disclose ingredients in wax or fragrance oils.

  • Toxic chemicals can be legally used in mainstream candles without customers ever knowing.

  • Paraffin wax, the most common candle wax, is derived from petroleum — the same stuff used to make gasoline and motor oil.

⚠️ The Truth About Paraffin Wax

Paraffin may be cheap and widely available, but it's dangerous.

When burned, paraffin wax releases toxic compounds into the air — including:

  • Toluene and benzene (both are known carcinogens)

  • Acetone, a key ingredient in nail polish remover

  • Formaldehyde, linked to asthma and cancer

  • Soot and black smoke, which can damage your lungs and stain your walls

These toxins can trigger headaches, asthma attacks, allergies, hormone disruption, and more — especially for sensitive individuals and pets.

Many candles also use phthalates in fragrance oils — which are endocrine disruptors that may mess with your hormones.

💚 Our Clean Candle Commitment

That realization lit a fire under our founder. She was determined to create something better — candles that didn’t harm your body, your air, or your peace.

And so, Good Intentions was born.

Our candles are:

  • Made with coconut soy wax, a clean, slow-burning, plant-based alternative.

  • Free from paraffin, phthalates, and toxic dyes.

  • Scented with non-toxic fragrance oils.

  • Hand-poured in small batches with intention, purpose, and love.

We want to help others reclaim peace without compromising their health.

🌱 Why Clean Candles Are More Than a Trend

This isn’t about hopping on a wellness bandwagon — it’s about taking your power back.

Lighting a candle should never mean polluting your lungs or triggering health issues. It should be a grounding ritual — one that supports your nervous system, your environment, and your energy.

💬 "Lighting a candle should bring peace, not poison."

✨ Let’s Spread Clean Candle Awareness Together

Our mission is simple: to light the world with intention, education, and love — one clean-burning candle at a time.

Every purchase you make supports a bigger movement: raising awareness about toxic ingredients in everyday products and creating a safer, softer future for all of us.

🕯 Good Intentions started with one candle. Now it's a lifestyle.
